The Bureau will conduct as well as promote research in the fields of economic and related subjects. The Bureau will not be precluded from undertaking research in the general field of social sciences which have a bearing on the above fields. It is hoped that this research will help in improving the quality of teaching by providing data as well as an analysis of economic and social problems. In particular, the research will be aimed at finding solutions to many practical problems which will help in policy making in national development. An important part of the programme of the Bureau will be concerned with the training of research workers at different levels, particularly graduate students, so that they can take up independent research work.
